Power Comes From - Chart1b-revKirkwood’s Portfolio

Kirkwood Electric is a municipal utility that buys its own power from the market. Today, 60% of that power comes from the purchase power contract for power from the Prairie State power plant in Lively Grove, Illinois, and 40% comes from the purchase power delivered from various power plants connected to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator bulk power high voltage transmission system.

Kirkwood’s Energy Sources

Kirkwood Electric’s power is generated from coal, natural gas, nuclear, and renewable energy sources like wind and solar.  To see a real-time chart depicting the fuel mix from MISO (Midcontinent Independent System Operator), click here.
